In this four-part blog series, we will highlight the selling tricks and practices of the nation’s kitchen retailers. From price match guarantees to model kitchens, retailer promotions to product guarantees, we will help you save time and money by demystifying the kitchen market.
Many consumers are naive to the industry practises and are often attracted by the high discounts, convinced by the competitor knocking tactics of the in-store consultants or the reassurance of a retailers price match guarantee.
Almost every kitchen retailer in the UK, with the exception of IKEA and John Lewis, offer what they describe as ‘Price Match Guarantees’. Some retailers even offer to match a competitor’s quote and then beat it by a further 10% - sounds great doesn’t it? However, this is where the small print matters. A good example of this Homebase, where their website states, ‘The product must be comparable in style, structure, quality & specification’.
However, it’s important to point out that there are very few national kitchen retailers in the UK that offer ranges that are genuinely ‘comparable in style, structure, quality and specification’, therefore it’s simply down to the consultant or store manager as to whether they offer you the discount.
